How to Disappear Completely

Yes, this is a photograph. It was so dark inside (and tripods were not allowed) that I had to expose for the highlights and hope that some amount of detail would be recoverable. The sensitivity of the 10D's sensor is really incredible. The engraving in the walls had not disappeared completely, I discovered. They were just hiding deep in the shadows.

Jason says:

Excellent pic! Can you post a color one as well?

Smallest Photo says:

Lovely shot!

says:

Hey! I remember you working on this shot, trying to decide between color and this! I do like how the design can be seen if you look closely. Thanks for the new post! ;)

Slim says:

OK...I think it is about time someone addressed the issue of the nameless commenter. Forgetting your name is ok, using a psuedonym is ok (particularly if it involves obscure cultural reference) using someone else's name is ok and possibly quite entertaining but willful non-registration is...right out. (Please note skillful use of cultural reference.)

johnny says:

Slim, Slim, Slim ... I'd love to know who you are, but you didn't leave your real name - or an email address - or the URL of a website that has your contact information. All you gave me is a pseudonym involving a cultural reference that tells me jack. The absence of a name is how Lisa marks her comments. So, very ironically I might add, the "nameless commenter" is more identifiable than you. Also, in order for the use of cultural references to be noted as "skillful", one must ensure that both parties know what the reference is.

Ok, all kidding aside. If you are who I think you are, call me and explain the reference. Seriously, I still haven't figured it out yet. : )

justin says:

im pretty sure thats a radiohead song :P... although a fitting title... and btw... slim u got owned... johnny 1, slim - ZERO

Slim says:

#1: Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out.
As for 'skillfull'... well I guess you are right, they say greatness can only be achieved with a great opponent.
#2: If you want to find me you don't have to do anything...not a thing. Oh, maybe just whistle. You know how to whistle, don't you, Johnny?

johnny says:

#1: Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some hire public relations officers.

#2: THAT'S where you're getting Slim from?!!! You do realize that To Have and Have Not was released in 1944 ... 1944! I guess I assumed the cultural reference was 'pop' culture. I guess not. Let me leave you with this, as few could appreciate it better:

- You know, you're not very hard to figure, only at times. Sometimes I know exactly what you're going to say. Most of the time. The other times... the other times, you're just a stinker.

Slim says:

Pop Culture IS a broad term.. you might be surprised to find it entails more than Napoleon Dynamite and Radiohead.

Edmund says:

Very nice photo John...and the running dialogue between you and your "fans" is quite entertaining! I suppose now I'll need to listen to more Radiohead to follow your comments......

Johnny says:

Ed - I'm wondering if it's possible that this "fan" consulted you first before attempting to quote a passage from Monty Python. Hmmm. If so, with friends like that, who needs enemies. If not, she should have. : )

Slim (aka Courtney) - If I discover that popular culture entails more than Napoleon Dynamite and Radiohead, I won't be surprized, I'll be devastated. You have to remember, my world is like a house of cards.

Desmondo Jose says:

Yeah. Maybe "Slim" is actually a Jim Croce fan.

I like the photo! Very "Moorish" (not the Scotland "moor," the Spanish type).

Tiago P. says:

Great Photo, John.
Incredible detail in such an underexposed image. Did you remove any noise from this shot?

johnny says:

Thanks Tiago. Nope, I didn't use any noise reduction. Now that you mention it, though, I wish I had tried that. There's a little more noise at the top than I like. But I guess for ISO 1600 with ramped levels, it's not too bad.
